You may notice a recurring theme to my messages. Be Safe and have Fun.
With the need for safety comes Rules, Rules, and more Rules. Every Member is responsible for making sure the rules are followed and our activities are conducted in a safe manner. Please don’t take offense when someone reminds you of the rules. If you are not comfortable reminding another Member of the rules, send an email to one of the Directors, with the time, date, location, and the nature of the violation.

The calendar indicates that Spring arrives this week. The Town of
Camillus has done an excellent job of maintaining the road in the past and I am certain that as the weather permits, they will make the necessary repairs again this year. I just keep reminding myself that.

PISTOL: Kevin Johnston
When prone, kneeling, or sitting you MUST now move the targets to the back wall at the 50ft mark. You may no longer shoot from these positions at targets on the RED line or in-between the RED line and the back wall. Shooting in these positions, when the target is closer than the back wall, causes shooters to elevate their barrels significantly enough where the ceiling and/or baffles become the backdrops. This has been causing damage to the range and is unsafe. Any questions can be directed to Kevin Johnston, Pistol Director, pistol@camillussportsmensclub.com.

February 2019 Newsletter

QUOTE OF THE MONTH: If you have not renewed your membership, your access to the club will end March 01, 2019.  Ted Gacek

PRESIDENT- Hal DeBoer The membership continues to grow at an
extraordinary rate. We welcomed over 70 new members during the
month of January. The question was raised about the club becoming
busy and I decided to check the numbers. We had over 1000 vehicles
ass through the gate during the month of January. The Indoor Pistol
ange appears to be very popular this time of year, with 395 members
using the range during the month. The daily average was approximately 15 members per day. There was no apparent time when the range was
busy. The answer to the question would be that the club is still not real
busy. We will continue to monitor the usage of the facilities.
The Executive Committee, as the managing body of the Corporation,
recently established requirements for all Leagues, Events, Matches,
Competitions and Tournaments, hereinafter referred to collectively as
“Events”, to ensure fair play. The following are the requirements:
a. All required fees and contributions by Members and non-members
shall be approved by the Executive Committee prior to the
commencement of the Events;
b. All proposed prizes and purses and the proposed distribution of the
same shall be approved by the Executive Committee prior to the
commencement of the Events;

c. All Events are prohibited from requiring mandatory Members and
non-members contributions for prizes, purses, meals, etc. This provision shall be conspicuously published and provided to the members and
non-members prior to their registration for the Event;

d. All required fees and contributions by Members and non-members,
proposed prizes and purses and the proposed distribution of the same,

shall be conspicuously published and provided to the members and
non-members prior to their registration for the Event;

e. All Events are prohibiting from establishing discriminating classes,
groups, categories, etc. This will include age, sex, gender etc. based
classes. Discrimination refers to the treatment or consideration of, or
making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on
the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs
rather than on individual merit. This provision shall be conspicuously
published and provided to the members and non-members prior to
their registration for the Event;

f. All prizes and purses shall be paid from funds collected from within
any established class, group, category, etc. This provision shall be
conspicuously published and provided to the members and
non-members prior to their registration for the Event;

g. No member of the Corporation or any other Not for Profit corporation associated with the Events, will receive pecuniary gain, incidental or
otherwise, unless properly conducted as an Employer/Employee
relationship or as an independent contractor in accordance with the
laws and regulations of the Federal government and the State of New
York.

PISTOL: Kevin Johnston ▪ As a reminder, the “Red line” is the minimum shooting distance on the indoor range.   ▪ When kneeling or sitting, the shooting angle is towards the
ceiling when the target is above the “Red line”. Two overhead tracks
had to be repaired due to bullet damage. Please be extra cautious when kneeling or sitting.

CLAYS: Joel McCarthy Winter Skeet league shoots every Saturday morning. If you are interested, join us on Saturday morning.
shotgun@camillussportsmensclub.com

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS: Kurt Field With the back and forth temperature changes, please be careful of ice when
walking around the club. A few observations I have noticed, or a club member has reported at the club that might get a member into trouble!

1)Rifle Range- a) Do not put a target on the metal pipes at the 100 yards line, these are for league use. b) A few minutes after legal sunset is
ill a violation, watch your time. c) No rapid firing, 2 seconds between shots (why cut it close), take your time and acquire your target for another precise shot. d) NO handling of a firearm when the lights are
ON, that includes adjusting the scope. Major Safety Violation.

2)Shotgun – a) When your done shooting be sure to push the on/off
switch to off on the control box to release the tension on the machine. b) When you are done shooting please refill the carousel with clay
birds, extra cases are under clubhouse pavilion.

3)Outdoor Pistol –
a) Stop shooting the wooden cross boards, no reason
for the target to be that high on the backer board.

b) Be careful of rapid firing here also, some are cutting it close.
Pick up your brass, new members and visitors have commented on
how nice it looks, let’s keep it PREMIER.

4)Indoor Pistol- a) Target must go down to the RED line on the floor (21′) or beyond, NOTHING before the line.

b) Too many rounds are hitting the steel at the ceiling and the track,
you must shoot horizontal or level with your gun. Do not angle the
gun up to the target, get another target arm from the cabinet, clip it on, target and gun are level.

c) No shotshell Ammo. Shooting a Judge with 410 shot will hurt
someone or break something, DON’T do it.

d) Don’t be shooting when your Guest is shooting, if they screw up it’s your membership on the line.
5)General –
a) When you bring a Guest onto the property and don’t sign them in or pay PRIOR to them shooting, YOU are in violation. Remember we
police each other, if you see something say something NICELY. These are just some of the reoccurring problems that a Director or a member has
noticed or taken care of verbally, I don’t want to see anybody lose their membership, if there is doubt ask the question.

PRESIDENT- Hal DeBoer The new year is upon us and the Directors are diligently working on

Please watch the Club’s website for volunteers needed on the projects.
Three years ago we embarked on the objective to make the Camillus

We are also looking into options for improving the ventilation in the

periods of stay. Members are reminded that shotshells are not allowed on the Indoor Range. Several .410 wads were found on the range floor. If you see a member violating the rules, and are uncomfortable

Thank you for your support while I have been President. I would also
like to thank all of you…them members and volunteers that make the
club “happen”. Happy and safe holidays, I will see you next year as Vice President for 2019.

done at the club, please email clays@camillussportsmensclub.com

Vice President- Mike Arnold
It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve the club in one position
or another over the years. I’m proud to have been associated with the members of the executive committee, and of the many projects which
have been accomplished by them. Thanks for the memories. Club
Range and Facilities Rules Violations-
What a relief it is to not have to report any serious club ranges or
facilities rules violations since the November newsletter.

NOTE: A serious rules violation results in an immediate deactivation of the member’s club access card. Most rules violations are resolved by
simply reminding a member of the rule(s).

A REMINDER: If you don’t know the difference between a shotgun shot shell and slug or sabot, or a bottle neck cartridge and a rim fire
cartridge, or the difference between a pistol cartridge and a rifle
cartridge, or what caliber or type of firearm can be used on which range or have any questions about anything – – – ASK SOMEONE.
GUEST RULES REMINDERS: Member’s responsibilities are POSTED for
bringing guests to the club. Members are absolutely responsible for the
conduct of their guest(s). The member is responsible to sign-in the guest(s) every time they are at the range and pay $2 per guest for using any of the ranges. The guest fees are deposited in the wall safe in the club
house. The member will not shoot, and will directly supervise the guest
shooting, and only one guest is allowed to shoot at a time. All club rules apply to guests.

or maintenance issues to pistol@camillussportsmensclub.com
– There have been several minor range rules and guest policy violations that required director intervention.
Please take the time to review the range rules and if you have any questions, contact the Pistol Director. As a reminder, all targets should be at

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

“Your membership expires December 31st “

–Ted Gacek, Membership Chairman

President- Chris Pollichemi
Hope hunting season is treating you well……
Our club elections will be occurring November 14, 2018 at 7pm, please plan on attending this meeting to make a difference in whom runs the club operations. Send in your membership renewal as soon as possible to avoid any interruption in your access to the club facilities.

Club Range and Facilities Rules Violations
Incidents Requiring Executive Committee Action
Member #    Date        Range/Facility            Description
2194        09/03/18    Outdoor Pistol Range    .223 Rifle, Resolved*, appeared at EC Mtg.
3200        10/13/18    Rifle Range        .223 Rifle, rapid fire, deactivated, to attend EC Mtg.
3237        10/16/18    Outdoor Pistol Range    .223 Rifle, Resolved*, EC
3116        10/19/18    Rifle Range        Personal Tgt. Board Prohibited, Resolved
*Resulted in suspension of club access until resolved.  Violation resolution pointed up a problem:  Some members may not understand the difference between rim fire and center fire cartridges.  Center fire rifles or carbines, using either center fire pistol and/or center fire rifle cartridges, also known as bottle neck cartridges, are not allowed on the pistol ranges – indoor or outdoor.  Rim fire rifles, shooting rim fire cartridges, most commonly in .17 or .22 caliber, for examples, are allowed on the pistol ranges.
Notice:  If you do not know for sure what range your firearm is allowed on, ask someone, read the signage, read your owner’s manual or find one on line.  If you use a firearm on a range where it is not allowed, your club access will probably be suspended, and you will probably be invited to visit the executive committee to explain why.  Ignorance may be bliss, but it won’t prevail in a range violation assessment.
Notice:  Rapid fire and high capacity magazines are subject to range rules.  Rapid fire is prohibited.  High capacity magazines are in violation of NYS Law.  Engaging in rapid fire and the use of high capacity magazines threatens a shooter’s continued club membership.

Camillus Sportsmen’s Club WINS Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Club Award

Our Club is dedicated to supporting shooting sports, sportsmen education, firearms safety, and conservation efforts in Onondaga County and Central New York. We accomplished many objectives to support our mission in the past year. It is the club’s desire desire to change the negative perception that many hold regarding the shooting sports and outdoors sportsmen, by getting more involved with our community. This we have done, and our image is now very positive one in the community.

On April 14th, Camillus Sportsmen’s Club was awarded Club of the Year by the Onondaga Federation of Sportsmen Club

We are very honored and humbled to receive this award. This award could not have been earned without the numerous Club members that dedicate expertise, time and effort to make us the “Premier Sportsmen’s Club of CNY”.

On behalf of the Camillus Sportsmen’s Club Executive Board, “Thank you.”
